2004
Following the retirement of Prim. Prof. Dr. Rudolf Mader
Prim. Univ. Prof. Dr. Michael Musalek takes over as new Director of the Anton Proksch Institute.
By now the capacity has increased to 266 beds. The institute now has four departments for alcohol and medication addicts with 223 beds, one drug department with a total of 43 beds and one department for outpatient treatment.

2005
Non-substance related forms of addiction, such as
pathological gambling,
internet addiction and
shopping addiction are also treated. The addiction counselling centre in Neunkirchen is opened.
A residential unit for young women and a mother-child-unit are set up as part of the women’s ward.
Support programmes for family members are extended and linked with other facilities.
The first summer party for residential and non-residential patients and their relatives takes place at the Anton Proksch Institute.
2006
The addiction counselling centre in Wiener Neustadt is opened.
For the first time there is a mixed ward for both women and men with its own treatment concept, including a combination of common and gender-specific therapies.
The learning centre is approved by the Österreichische Computer Gesellschaft, OCG, as a test centre.
The working group «Medical Humanities» and the first inpatient «Café philosophique» are founded.
2007
In January the Congress «Youth, Addiction and Culture» takes place at the Palais Ferstel.
2008
On 25 and 26 January the Congress «Addiction, Comorbidity and Treatment» is held at the Palais Ferstel.
The addiction counselling centre in Mödling is opened.
The Wiedner Hauptstrasse Outpatient Clinic becomes the main outpatient clinic of the Anton Proksch Institute.
The
Society of Friends and Supporters of the Anton Proksch Institute Addiction and Culture – Culture and Addiction is founded.
2009
On 30 and 31 January 2009, the congress «The Future of Addiction Treatment - Complexity, Innovation and Utopias» is held at the Palais Ferstel.
The new innovative treatment concept, the
Orpheus Programme, becomes the basis for therapeutic work at the Anton Proksch Institute.
Concept «517 New» named after withdrawal ward 517, for the first time integrates abstinence and substitution-supported treatments for residential patients being treated for addictions to illegal substances.
The training course «Nursing and Addictions» is held for the first time at the Anton Proksch Institute
Academy.
2010
On 29 and 30 January 2010, the Congress «Putting People at the Heart of Addiction Treatment – Paradigm Shift in Counselling, Treatment, Rehabilitation and (Re)-integration» is held at the Palais Ferstel.
The BRISANT project to reintegrate alcohol-dependent patients into the working world once they have completed residential treatment is starting.
