Support for relatives and friends

Addictions to substances such as alcohol, medication and drugs but also non-substance related addictions affect not only the addict, they also take a toll on their environment.

Loved ones too become trapped by the illness, play their roles and suffer from the situation. Spouses, children, parents, relatives, friends and colleagues find themselves colluding with the addict without even realizing it.

However, at any point of the process relatives and friends have a chance to pause, reflect and abandon unhelpful patterns of behaviour. This often means having to confront their own feelings of disappointment, hurt and pain and becoming aware of their own desires, aspirations and ideas about life.

As part of our treatment programme, we offer addicts and their families a place to meet and talk to others on a basis of trust.

These family support groups are open to all those who have a loved one who is an addict, even if the addict has not (yet) started treatment.
